Kloofendal is a free, fenced 128-hectare reserve with self-guided walks from 30 minutes to 3 hours, a stone amphitheatre and remnants of some of the earliest gold-mining activity on the Reef. Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden, run by SANBI, centres on the 70-metre Witpoortjie Falls and a moderate 3.9km Geological Trail — as of early 2026 the upper steps to the top of the falls were temporarily closed, though the lower trail and falls viewpoint remained open. Dogs aren't permitted at either.

Kloofendal's entry is free and its no-dogs rule applies to the reserve itself — the adjoining Little Falls property allows dogs. Walter Sisulu's Geological Trail takes around two and a half hours at a moderate pace. The garden has nesting Verreaux's eagles.
