Managed by the South African National Biodiversity Institute, Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden covers almost 300 hectares of landscaped and natural veld below the 70-metre Witpoortjie Falls, home to nesting Verreaux's eagles. Its Geological Trail is a moderate, roughly 3.9km circular route taking around two and a half hours, with interpretation boards on the Witwatersrand's rock formations along the way. As of early 2026 the upper section of steps to the top of the falls was temporarily closed, though the lower trail and falls viewpoint remained accessible. Pets are not permitted in the garden. Official visitor page: open every day 08:00–17:00; tickets online or card at the gate — cash is not accepted. Confirm the live day tariff on that page; we do not copy a rand figure from a third-party list.
