Hiking trails on Table Mountain

Browse trails in Table Mountain, Cape Town.

Table Mountain's four listings cover a spread of difficulty. Pipe Track is the easiest, a long, mostly flat contour path with no summit climb; Lion's Head is the most popular, a spiral sunrise-and-sunset route with an optional chain-and-ladder scramble near the top; Platteklip Gorge is the original, most direct route to the summit, steep with no shade or water along the way; and India Venster is the hardest of the four, rated by multiple hiking guides as the most technically demanding of the mountain's standard routes, with real exposure on narrow ledges.

Parking varies by route: Lion's Head relies on very limited street parking on Signal Hill Road that fills fast at sunset, Platteklip Gorge and India Venster both use paid parking near the Lower Cable Station on Tafelberg Road, and Pipe Track starts from grass-verge parking at Kloof Nek. None of the four charge a separate trail entry fee beyond parking, but India Venster and Platteklip Gorge both explicitly warn against attempting them in wet or windy conditions given the exposure involved.
