Cecilia Forest, Table Mountain

Constantia-side TMNP forest walk to a seasonal waterfall — not a SANParks-published kilometre trail.

Cecilia Forest sits on Table Mountain’s lower eastern slopes in Constantia, just south of Kirstenbosch. People search it as one hike. What we can stand behind is the Cecilia Forest waterfall walk from Rhodes Drive — not a copied AllTrails distance.

Access and the waterfall

Parking is the Cecilia Forest car park off Rhodes Drive, opposite Hohenort Avenue. The usual walk follows forest paths toward Cecilia Waterfall and back. SANParks Scientific Services monitors Cecilia Ravine and notes that human use is allowed in that section of the park. The waterfall is seasonal: winter rain makes it worth the walk; late summer often does not.

SANParks does not publish a kilometre or duration figure for this forest walk on the TMNP hiking pages we use. We leave distance blank rather than copy a blog or an app.

Fees, dogs, nearby walks

The official TMNP rates page lists named pay points (Silvermine, Tokai picnic, Cape Point and others). Cecilia / Rhodes Drive is not on that list, so we do not invent a gate fee. Dog walking on permitted routes still needs a My Activity permit — details on the hiking permits guide.

Next door, Constantia Nek (De Villiers Dam circuit) starts further along Rhodes Drive. Kirstenbosch’s Skeleton Gorge and picnic lawns are a garden ticket, not this forest car park. Newlands Forest is the next TMNP forest to the north.

Questions

Do you pay to walk in Cecilia Forest?
SANParks’ TMNP pay-point list names Cape Point, Boulders, Silvermine, Tokai, Oudekraal and the picnic braai sites — not a Cecilia / Rhodes Drive gate. We therefore do not publish a conservation fee for this access. Dogs still need a My Activity permit.
Are dogs allowed in Cecilia Forest?
Yes on permitted Table Mountain walking routes, with a SANParks My Activity permit (Level 1). Buy it online or at the Tokai Tourist Office (021 712 7471, weekdays). We do not publish an off-leash rule.
Is there a waterfall in Cecilia Forest?
Yes — Cecilia Waterfall, reached from the Rhodes Drive car park opposite Hohenort Avenue. SANParks scientific monitoring treats Cecilia Ravine as a used section of the park. The fall is seasonal and often thin or dry outside the wetter months. We do not invent a kilometre or hour figure.
