Faerie Glen hiking trail

Faerie Glen hiking trail on this guide means Tshwane’s three official walks at the same January Masilela Drive gate: Hadeda 2.9km easy, Acacia 2.5km medium, and Kiepersol 4.1km hard. We do not add those into one invented loop. Informal picnic only — no braais. This is not Fairy Glen private game reserve.

Official facts

Tshwane: the land was part of the farm Hartbeespoort, given to Pretoria as public open space in 1973. The Bronberg was declared a critically endangered ecosystem in 2011. Two vegetation types sit in the valley: Gold Reef Mountain Bushveld and Marikana Thornveld. The nature reserve was proclaimed in 2014. Impala, red hartebeest and zebra were introduced afterwards, with birdlife and smaller mammals.

Official trails: Hadeda 2.9km (easy), Acacia 2.5km (medium), Kiepersol 4.1km (hard). Two wooden bird lookouts. Informal picnic — picnics only, no braais. Gate 06:00–18:00, last entry 17:00. Phone 012 358 1510.

Fee, dogs, picnic

The reserve is cashless. The tariff table on the Tshwane page is valid 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027: adults R23. Season tickets and a dog permit (R151, max two dogs) sit on the same table. Nature Conservation notes that Tshwane tariffs can change, and the gate wins if the website is behind.

Dogs need a permit issued at the cashier — about three days, with an ID photo and a copy of your ID. Do not treat this as a walk-up dog park. Groups larger than 20 must book. No alcohol, gazebos, church groups or loud noise.

Friends of Faerie Glen (named on the official page) publish their own winter opening and a membership card. We do not put their booking email on the listing. Use the Tshwane page and the gate for the walk.
