A 3.41-square-kilometre nature reserve was declared around the Voortrekker Monument in 1992, and the surrounding hills now hold zebra, blesbok, mountain reedbuck, springbok, black wildebeest and impala alongside walking and jeep-track routes that climb toward the monument for views over Pretoria. The reserve connects via a newer road to neighbouring Freedom Park. Entry fees and dog policy vary by source and should be confirmed directly with the monument before visiting.
