Johannesburg City Parks lists The Wilds as a 16-hectare nature reserve on the outskirts of Houghton, set against koppies with indigenous gardens, walkways, waterfalls and fountains. Paths ramble across the hillsides with city views. A sundial at the peak marks a skyline viewpoint. Official facilities: footpath, fountains, indigenous plants, waterfall, weddings and small corporate events. Events are limited to protect the flora. The JCPZ walking-trails page describes walks of 30 minutes to 1 hour and recommends walking in groups; park off Joe Slovo Drive in Houghton by the bridge. Getting there: Joe Slovo Drive from the inner city or Houghton Drive from the north. Address block: Houghton Drive, Houghton. Phone 011 643 2313.
