Hermanus now has two listings drawn from Fernkloof Nature Reserve's own visitor information: the Cliff Path, a free 11.7km coastal walk from the New Harbour to Grotto Beach, and the mountain reserve above town, which is also free to enter. Southern right whales are typically in Walker Bay from around June to December, which is when the cliff path is busiest.
Dogs are welcome on a leash on the Cliff Path and only on Fernkloof's lower Blue Route — not on the higher mountain paths. Both listings share Overstrand Municipality emergency numbers; there is no gate fee at either, though Fernkloof sells maps at the visitors' centre and asks for donations.
