Hiking trails in De Hoop
De Hoop's listings all sit in CapeNature's 34,000-hectare reserve, about three hours from Cape Town. The Whale Trail is the booked product: 55km over five days from Potberg to Koppie Alleen, groups of six or twelve only, first night at Potberg. The Klipspringer Trail (6km, about two hours) and Potberg Trail (10km, about three hours) are day walks from the same Potberg section — they do not need a Whale Trail permit.
CapeNature's call centre for Whale Trail bookings is 087 087 8250. Day-hike permits are sold at the reserve office. Pets are not marked as permitted. Tourism cottages and camping elsewhere in the reserve are De Hoop Collection, not the trail desk. Kogelberg day walks are listed separately under the Kogelberg suburb.
