Most people searching West Coast National Park — or West Coast Nature Reserve — want flowers, the lagoon or a houseboat, not a blended “the hike”. SANParks splits the walking into short day loops at Geelbek and Langebaan, and two booked Postberg routes that only run in August and September.
Walk-up day trails
From Geelbek Information Centre, SANParks lists a 9km circular walk to the dunes and a 7km circular walk that includes part of Sixteen Mile Beach. From the Langebaan gate, the Bakoor Trail is 4.6km to Seeberg View Point. Pets are not permitted. Daily conservation fees apply — check the SANParks park page rather than a figure copied here.
Flower season — Postberg, August and September only
The restricted Postberg section opens to the public in flower season. Two hiking products start at Tsaarsbank and must be booked from June:
- Postberg Hiking Trail — two days, 15.5km then 11.8km, own tent at Plankiesbaai, maximum 12.
- Steenbok Trail — one day, 13.9km, about five hours, maximum 20.
Geelbek Information Centre: 022 707 9902/3. Arrive at Tsaarsbank at 09:00. Water is only at the gate and at Plankiesbaai. Postberg closes at 17:00. See the Postberg listings for the rules we have checked against the official trails page.
What we have not listed
SANParks also describes a two-day Strandveld Trail from Geelbek. Accommodation is not included, and the park points overnight guests at park or Langebaan lodging rather than a trail hut. Eve's Trail is a 2.5-day guided, catered walk booked through the Cape West Coast Biosphere Reserve. We have not turned those into listings yet.
