Read this before you drive (2026)
CapeNature's Jonkershoek page states that parking on the circular route is closed from 23 March 2026 until further notice. Use the outside parking and walk about 5km to reach the trails. The circular road itself is described as open for a limited number of cars in older copy on the same page — treat the March 2026 notice as current and confirm before you go.
Office: 087 087 4118. Permits can be bought via the MTO website or at the MTO gate on the day. Wild Cards are accepted with a confirmation letter or the physical card. Day-access tariffs on the reserve page have shown both R70 and R50 — we do not pick one figure for you.

The four official hikes
- Tweede Waterval — 6.4km, about two hours, out and back along the Eerste River. CapeNature calls it an easy ramble with a steep finish. No access after 14:00.
- Swartboskloof to Sosyskloof — 5.3km (or 6.9km via the lookout), about two to two and a half hours. The easy circular option. No access after 12:00.
- Panorama Circuit — 17km, about six hours, with an optional detour to Guardian Peak (1,227m). No access after 10:00. Slippery when wet.
- Swartboskloof Trail — 18km, about six hours, more than 900m of climb in the first 4.5km. No access after 10:00.
Dogs are not permitted without the reserve manager's prior written consent. Weather in the Jonkershoek mountains changes fast; CapeNature warns of berg adder, puff adder, boomslang and Cape cobra.
