A mountain path through the foothills of the Drakensberg
Drakensberg region · representative photograph, not this specific trail

Royal Natal National Park, roughly a 3-4 hour drive from Durban below the Drakensberg's famous amphitheatre, has several short, genuinely easy walks alongside its longer mountain routes. Cascades is a flat 5km round trip along the Mahai River (about an hour); Fairy Glen is a 1.6km walk to a waterfall and picnic spot, extendable to a 4km loop; and Otto's Walk is a signposted, self-guided 3km interpretive trail with a booklet available from the Visitor Centre. These are distinct from the longer, more demanding Tugela Gorge trail, which involves river crossings and a chain ladder and is not suitable for casual hikers.
