The Cederberg Wilderness Area is a CapeNature World Heritage landscape of burnt-orange sandstone, about 250km north of Cape Town via the N7. The two listings here are the day routes CapeNature describes on the reserve page: Wolfberg Arch via the Wolfberg Cracks (about eight hours, strenuous) and the Maltese Cross (about five hours, well-marked). Both need a hiking permit bought at Sanddrif, not a walk-up at the rock itself.
CapeNature requires a minimum of three adult hikers on Cederberg wilderness day and overnight trails. Pets are not permitted. Fires, including gas cookers, are not allowed in the mountains. Algeria Campsite is closed after flood damage — check CapeNature's current access notes before you plan to start from Algeria. Wolfberg and Maltese Cross permits are issued at Sanddrif (027 482 2825).
Overnight wilderness blocks, Stadsaal Cave, Truitjieskraal and Rocklands bouldering have their own permit desks. We have not listed those until we can confirm current access the same way. Wolfkop Nature Reserve at Citrusdal is a separate private 450-hectare property with three official circle walks — not a Sanddrif CapeNature permit.
