Sandstone rock formation in the Cederberg Mountains
Cederberg region · representative photograph, not this specific trail

CapeNature lists the Maltese Cross as a well-marked out-and-back of about five hours: a mild uphill toward the pillar, then the same route back with mountain views. A valid hiking permit from Sanddrif (027 482 2825) is required. CapeNature's published tariff is R100 per adult and R65 per child. As with other Cederberg wilderness day trails, a minimum of three adult hikers applies, pets are not permitted, and fires including gas cookers are not allowed in the mountains. This is a Sanddrif permit route; Algeria Campsite is closed after flood damage.
